F2, Free Excel and Word Viewer

(4/29/2009) With Microsoft's free Excel Viewer , you can open, view, and print Excel workbooks, even if you don't have Excel installed. You can also copy data from Excel Viewer to another program. However, you cannot edit data, save a workbook, or create a new workbook. Microsoft's free Word Viewer lets you view and print Microsoft Word documents on a computer that does not have Microsoft Word installed. As far as I know, there is no version of these for the Macintosh operating systems.

F3, ID Theft Info

AnnualCreditReport.com - Official site for ordering your free credit reports. This site has links to the 3 agencies, Equifax, Experian, & Trans Union Note this is the ONLY official site. There are many "bogus" sites with similar names that will charge you money for this. FinancialPrivacyNow.org - Consumer's Union site with info about how to FREEZE your credit report. (Contents partially copied as 'Article 2' below.) Article 1 -The Great Identity Freeze The following article is used with permission of The Williamsport Guardian WilliamsportGuardian.com Aug-Sept 2007 issue, Page 5. (permission granted 9/11/07) Pennsylvania is one of 37 states with a security freeze law that prevents identity theft. As of January 1, 2007, you can freeze your credit report so that even if thieves get your name and Social Security number, they can’t open a credit card in your name. You need to send letters to all three credit reporting companies (after all, this is America and

G1, Some Mac Tutors

About This Page If you're new to computers, and you have a Macintosh and you live in the Williamsport area, the following people may be able to give you some "one on one" instruction. Rates -- Rates will be generally between $25/hour, down to someone willing to help you as a volunteer. Expertise levels vary widely, but all these people are experienced Mac users, and can show a new Mac user some useful tips. F4b ~~~~~notes - Mac Tutors

THANKS to everyone who responded to the earlier July 2 "request for tutors" email. On Jul 2, 2008, at 12:14 AM, Ingram-Jim-Group-Mailings wrote: QUESTION: Are any of you in the Williamsport area available to be "tutors" to people who are new computer users, and have Macs ?? This would usually involve going to the person's home. I'm guessing the pay rate would probably be somewhere between doing it as a volunteer and around $20 per hour (to be decided by mutual agreement). If so: Can you send me a contact phone number that can be put on a web page ? (preferable) -- or alternately, send me an email address that you don't mind being listed on a web page (it should be different than your personal address, as Spammers can see it). (( Keep in mind a lot of people who need tutors, cannot get on the internet or even use their email, so in my opinion, a phone number is a whole lot more useful than an email address. )) Below is a compilation of the responses.

G2, New Users With Macs

Unfortunately, Susquehanna SeniorNet currently does not support the Macintosh platform. However, following below are some resources for new Macintosh users. . 1. Cpamu.com - Central Pa Mac Users website . 2. Cpamu Email Discussion Group - 'Cpamu' is short for 'C'entral 'Pa' 'M'ac 'U'sers. There's a Yahoo Group Cpamu Mac email discussion list - details on Cpamu.com website, Para #6 . Use Apple Mail, set up a separate mail folder named 'cpamu', and create a "rule" to automatically file messages in 'cpamu' folder. Do this to prevent all the messages from cluttering up your inbox. Get someone to help you with this if necessary. 3. Mac SeniorNet Networking There are currently about a half-dozen Susquehanna SeniorNet members using Macs. Send your name/email/phone to James Ingram , and we can put you in touch with these people. 4. Local Williamsport Mac Meetup group - Meet
